Rotate PDF pages
Turn single pages, ranges or the whole document and save the rotation into the file, so it opens the right way up everywhere. Nothing is redrawn and nothing is uploaded.

Rotating a page without touching what is on it
Every page in a PDF carries a small number called /Rotate: 0, 90, 180 or 270. It tells the reader to turn the page by that many degrees clockwise before showing it. The page's actual content — the text, the vector drawing, the embedded scan — is untouched; only the instruction about which way up to display it changes.
That is all this tool changes. It does not redraw the page, render it to an image or re-compress anything, so a turned page is exactly as sharp as it was, its text is still selectable and searchable, and the file stays roughly the same size. Tools that rotate by printing to a new PDF can quietly lose all three.
The flag is saved in the file. Rotating a page in a viewer's toolbar often only changes your view and forgets it when you close the document; a page turned here stays turned in every reader, on every device, for whoever you send it to.
Turning the right pages
Each page has its own card. The outline shows the page's real proportions and which way up it will be, and the thick coloured line — the sheet's heading — marks its top edge. Click the page to turn it a quarter clockwise, or use the arrows underneath to go either way. Cards you have changed are tinted, and the label shows the change relative to how the page arrived.
For whole documents, the buttons at the top turn every page at once. Make landscape pages portrait is for the classic mixed scan, where a stack of letters went through the feeder with one or two sheets sideways: it turns just the pages that are currently wider than they are tall. It cannot see which way the text runs, so it always turns clockwise; if a page ends up upside down, give it another 180° with two more clicks or from the range box.
To target specific pages, type a range — 3, 2,5,9 or 10-14 — and pick a direction. Page numbers are positions in the file, counting the first sheet as 1.
Why there are no thumbnails
The cards show each page's shape and orientation rather than a picture of it. Drawing a real preview means rendering the PDF: fonts, images, transparency and all. That takes a full rendering engine several megabytes in size, and every other PDF tool on this site works without one. If you need to see which page is upside down, open the file in any reader beside this page, note the page numbers, and type them in the range box.
What else survives
The new file is the old document's whole object graph copied across as it is, with a different /Rotate on the pages you turned. Bookmarks still jump to the right pages, internal and external links still work, form fields keep their values and stay fillable, attachments and document properties come along. This is different from the split and merge tools on this site, which rebuild the page tree and so have to leave bookmarks behind.
Links and form fields are defined in the page's own coordinate space, so they turn with the page and stay over the thing they belong to. Annotations whose appearance is marked as not rotating, such as some sticky notes, stay upright on screen, which is what the PDF standard says they should do.
Protected files and signatures
A file that opens without a password but restricts editing is read normally. A file that asks for a password to open can be rotated if you type the password; it is checked inside this page and never sent anywhere. Either way, the saved copy is not encrypted, because re-encrypting would mean handling your password in a second place. Set a new password in your reader afterwards if the document needs one.
Digitally signed documents lose their signature validity when any page changes, and rotation is a change. If you need both a signed original and a readable copy, keep the original.
Common questions
Does rotating reduce the quality of my PDF?
No. Only the page's rotation setting changes; the text, images and drawings inside it are copied across byte for byte. Nothing is rendered, re-compressed or converted to an image, so text stays selectable and scans stay exactly as sharp as they were.
Will the rotation stick when I open the file elsewhere?
Yes. The rotation is written into the PDF itself, in each page's /Rotate entry, which every PDF reader honours. That is different from the rotate button in many viewers, which only changes your current view and is forgotten when you close the file.
Can I rotate only some pages?
Yes. Click individual pages, or type a range such as 2, 5-7 and choose a direction. The rest of the document is left exactly as it was.
How do I fix a scan where a few pages came out sideways?
Use Make landscape pages portrait. It turns only the pages that are currently wider than they are tall. Because it cannot read the page, it always turns them clockwise; any that end up upside down can be fixed with one more click.
Why can't I see a preview of each page?
Showing a real preview would mean rendering the PDF, which needs a large rendering engine this site does not load. The cards show each page's shape and which way up it will be. Keep the PDF open in a reader alongside if you need to check page content.
Are bookmarks and form fields kept?
Yes. The whole document is copied into the new file with only the rotation changed, so bookmarks, links, form fields and their values, attachments and document properties all survive.
Can I rotate a password-protected PDF?
If it opens without a password it works straight away. If it asks for a password to open, type it into the box that appears; it is checked in this page and not sent anywhere. The rotated copy is saved without encryption.
Is there a page or size limit?
No set limit. The file is read into your browser's memory, so very large documents depend on your device, but a few hundred pages is quick on any recent computer or phone. Nothing is uploaded.
