Who asks for 50 KB

Fifty kilobytes is the standard cap on the Indian passport portal, on most bank KYC uploads, and on a long list of state government forms. It is tight enough that a modern phone photo needs real reduction — a 4 MB original has to lose about 98% of its bytes.

What survives at this size

A document scan or an ID photo comes through cleanly; the tool keeps as much resolution as it can and only reduces the pixel dimensions once quality alone cannot reach the target. A detailed landscape photograph will visibly soften. If the portal accepts a smaller image, letting it shrink the dimensions gives a better-looking result than forcing full resolution at minimum quality.

How the target is hit
